Please give us a short summary of your website?
Counselling In Spain is a website offering information mainly about trained and qualified counsellors and other therapists who provide a confidential counselling service all over Spain.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I launched a website called Counselling In France in 2003 as I realised there was a huge need for counselling in English in teh expat community. That website has grown and now has many sister websites and over 100 therapists on there.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
www.counsellinginfrance.com was the first
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I wanted it to be easy to find in the search engines and www.counsellors.es couldn't be easier to find.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
It's free of charge, it has the backup of the main website which is very high in the search engines and I believe very strongly in the integrity of the website.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To make sure it grows and develops so that it becomes and remains a definitive directory for counselling in English all over Spain. If I succeed, I hope to extend the idea to Portugal
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Not really applicable as I am doing this because I believe in it, not because there is money or sucess involved. No counsellor really wants or needs a high profile, but they do need to be easily found.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would try to raise the money for webcams and speech in the new online peer supervision section. The fact that the new website is free of charge means I can't advertise it in papers all over Spain so with an unlimited budget, I would make sure it was in every English speaking publication in Spain!
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes, of course. A website like this doesn't grow very quickly, it tends to evolve and develop gradually
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
In France, with the Counselling In France website, I have had to make sure I conform with the regulations for woriking status but I hope I have learned by my mistakes and won't ruffle any bureaucratic feathers in Spain
What has been your biggest challenge?
Finding enough qualified therapists to agree to go onto the webiste. So many people think there's a scam involved if you offer a service free of charge and I can only hope that the French website proves my honesty and intentions
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Email contact has been the only way I can contact people so far and advertising on websites.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Not applicable yet as it's only just launched
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
This is a brand new website and I will keep it running no matter what!
