What inspired you to launch your own website?
The best way to market counseling services is through the web.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first website was launched in 2007. That website is still active and can be found at http://www.mftlaura.com
How did you decide on a name for your website?
The first site was easy. I am a Marriage Family Therapist and my name is Laura Melgosa so MFTLaura seemed like a good choice for a website. My second website http://www.mendingmymarriage.com is started to promote my specialty as a marriage counselor.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
I think that my marriage website really does a good job of describing how my services may be of use to someone struggling with relationship issues.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I think writing a book may be in my future and my website would continue to be used to promote my books and services.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
You must invest in your practice for it to be successful. You need to have or develop a business sense in addition to counseling skills.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Hire professionals for website design and marketing.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Not at this time. As a sole proprietor it would be difficult to grow quickly.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Yellow Pages - I find this is not worth the expense and the expense grows every year.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I think just building a good website wit keywords that help with placement in search engines.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Web advertising has met all my expectations.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
My sites have been running for 2+ years and will continue for as long as I am business for myself.

Know who your target customers are and speak directly to them on your website.
