How does anxiety affect men?

By Jennifer Baxt at 08/12/08 08:05

It may appear that women tend to suffer from general anxiety far more than men do, but men tend to suffer anxiety just as much as women do even if they don’t appear to. There are many things in life that can contribute to the increasing anxiety that men will experience in their lives. It could be issues at work, it could be the low level of confidence they have, or difficulties at home with the family where the relationship is not as healthy as it should be; any of these, or even a combination of a number of these can all contribute to anxiety in men. There are many more causes of anxiety in men, including the possibility that they inherited their anxiety through genes or are experiencing anxiety as a result of some chemical imbalances in the brain.

By Jennifer Baxt at 08/10/08 09:11
There are many different causes of depression, including poor physical health, the environment in which a person lives, lack of a social life, low confidence, and the list continues. Everyone is unique, as are the different types of depression. In fact, there are some people who suffer depression because of genes they have inherited from one or both of their parents, some who suffer it because of a chemical imbalance and others who have depression because they focus too much on the negative. There are treatments for most kinds of depression and studies are still being done to find more, but for some the best treatment would be prevention.

Can you get addicted to your prescription medications?

By Jennifer Baxt at 08/08/08 08:08
When people think of substance abuse, they automatically think of alcohol and illegal drugs or street dugs, such as cocaine and heroin. What most people are not going to think about are the drugs that are given to people with the permission of their doctor. When people abuse a substance, it is not always something that is illegal. It can be prescription drugs that people, even teenagers, sometimes abuse. In fact, studies show that while pain medication is one of the most abused substances in North America, medications such as cough syrup are often abused by young adults.

Are you suffering from burnout?

By Jennifer Baxt at 08/06/08 12:29
Burnout is a loose term for fatigue or exhaustion syndrome. It is a situation where an individual is constantly tired and will exhibit signs of extreme exhaustion. Some of these symptoms will include some memory loss, short attention span, some physical pain in the form of headaches or back pain, irritability, lack of energy and poor performance in work and/or school. There are many people who live with this but are unaware that there is something wrong. They might simply feel that life has been busy and stressful, which has left them tire, but it is a problem that can persist and develop into a depression if not treated.

Do you have a personality disorder?

By Jennifer Baxt at 08/04/08 08:30
There is still much to learn about personality disorders. Defining the condition can be a little difficult because of how it differs from one person to the next. Those affected with personality disorder will be affected in the way they think, how they feel and how they behave, because personality has much to do with these three areas. Most people will sort out their personalities, such as how they think, feel and behave, by the time they are young adults, but people with personality disorder have difficulty with thinking, feeling and behaving in a way that would allow them to interact with others properly.

What do you do when your teenager is depressed?

By Jennifer Baxt at 08/02/08 10:18
No parent wants to hear or believe that their teenage son or daughter is depressed, but it happens. It could be that the teen is having difficulty in dealing with the loss of a family member or close friend, are having difficulty with other students at school or are suffering from stresses from home, school and/or work. Ignoring the problem will not help it go away. Parents who believe their child might be depressed should find help for their teenage son or daughter, instead of ignoring the problem and hoping that it will go away. Dealing with the possible depression properly as soon as possible will give the teenager the best chance at getting out of their depression and having a good start to their life.
